G73 Utility and Detail Survey
At Durkin, we are dedicated to providing top-tier surveying and civil engineering solutions that meet the diverse needs of our clients. Partnering with industry leaders allows us to tackle complex projects that require both expertise and innovation. In this case study, we explore how our skilled Survey Team successfully navigated challenging conditions to deliver a critical Utility and Detail Survey, ensuring the seamless progression of our Client’s infrastructure endeavors.
Project Overview
Durkin were engaged to conduct a comprehensive Utility and Detail Survey in a region where existing State Survey Marks (SSMs) were insufficiently accurate. The primary objective was to establish a reliable Survey Control Network in compliance with G73 specifications, thereby enabling the seamless progression of subsequent works.
The Challenge
This project presented a unique challenge for Durkin as it marked our first GNSS survey conducted in accordance with G73 standards. The absence of accurate SSMs in the vicinity necessitated the creation of a new Survey Control Network from scratch. Additionally, the project was constrained by a limited timeframe due to Road Occupancy Licence (ROL) restrictions, demanding an efficient and effective approach to meet stringent deadlines.
Our Approach
To address these challenges, Durkin's expert Survey Team undertook the following steps:
Comprehensive Research: The team thoroughly reviewed G73 and all referenced publications to understand the requirements for setting up Control Surveys using GNSS in Static mode.
Equipment Validation: Prior to fieldwork, all GNSS receivers were validated at the Transport for NSW (TfNSW) test site in Bass Hill to ensure accuracy and reliability.
Strategic Planning: Collaborating with external advisers, the team meticulously planned the geometry of the Survey Control Network to achieve the desired Class of Control. While the initial goal was to establish a Class B Control Survey Network, time constraints necessitated adjusting the target to a Class C network.
Efficient Execution: Operating within the limited timeframe, the 5-person Survey Team executed the survey on site, adhering to the devised methodology to ensure precision and compliance with G73 standards.
Delivering Results
Despite the initial challenges, Durkin successfully delivered a Class C Control Survey Network within the constrained timeframe imposed by ROL restrictions. The meticulous planning and execution by our Utility Survey Team ensured that the project met all target objectives, providing our client with a reliable foundation for their ongoing works.
Key Achievements:
Established a Class C Survey Control Network using GNSS Survey Techniques in Static Mode.
Completed the project within the limited timeframe, adhering to ROL restrictions.
Ensured compliance with G73 specifications through rigorous planning and equipment validation.
